In this article, let’s take a look at the science behind our Revert Tea and its crucial natural ingredients, anise, buckthorn berry, buckthorn blare, fennel, mate, nettle and rosehip.

The ingredients

There are 7 key ingredients to our premium blend of herbal tea, and each individual one provides its own health benefits.

Anise

Anise, also known as pimpinella anisum, aniseed or sweet cumin, is a plant commonly located in Southwest Asia and the Mediterranean. First cultivated in Egypt, anise was brought to Europe for its medicinal qualities, however it has also been used in the creation of food, exotic drinks, liquor and candy. In 1597, John Gerard, a English herbalist and botanist, found anise to improve conditions like diarrhea and bloating. From this point forward, science has uncovered many more benefits of anise. In addition to aiding in digestion, diarrhea and bloating, anise can also protect against stomach ulcers and regulate blood sugar. Anise is also a great natural remedy for weight loss, as it boosts the metabolism, meaning it increases the rate at which our cells burn up energy and fat from our diet. Anise is also an effective appetite suppressant.

Buckthorn Berry & Buckthorn Blare

Buckthorn berries come from sea buckthorn plants, commonly found throughout China and Europe. They are also known as sea buckthorn and sea berries. The medicinal use of buckthorn berries was first documented by the medical officers among the ranks of Genghis Khan as a herbal remedy to a large amount of different ailments. Now, the berries are commonly regarded as a superfood due to their rich content of necessary minerals, antioxidants, nutrients and vitamins. Buckthorn is a terrific natural weight loss remedy. It is rich in omega-7 fatty acids, which both stimulates the body to burn fat and stops the storing of excess fat. It is, in fact, regarded as one of the best naturally occurring weight loss remedies. In addition to this, buckthorn is full of Vitamins K, E, A, B1 and B2, also containing over ten time the vitamin C content of an orange. These vitamins and nutrients provide many health benefits beyond weight loss like improving skin, heart, eye and stomach health. Buckthorn has also been shown to boost the immune system, improve cognitive functioning, reduce inflammation, fight oxidative stress and even fight the spread of free radicals throughout the body.

Fennel

Fennel is a vegetable traditionally found along the Mediterranean coastline, however it is now produced in most major countries all over the world. It is perhaps most well-known for its taste, which is an unusual licorice flavor. Fennel has been attributed with a variety of health benefits in addition to aiding in weight loss, like lowering cholesterol, decreasing risk of developing heart disease, preventing cancer and promoting brain function. In terms of weight loss, fennel boosts the bodies’ metabolism, which ensures that fat is burnt faster. Fennel has also been found to be an effective appetite suppressant. Whilst providing all these benefits, fennel is also a rich source of protein, vitamin B, potassium and many more dietary minerals like calcium, magnesium and iron.

Mate

Mate, also known as yerba mate, is a plant grown throughout many South American countries like Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. It has been harvested to be used in tea for its medicinal benefits for centuries. Mate is in fact very much alike to green tea, in the sense that they provide very similar health benefits and are both teaming with antioxidants. However, mate does come out on top. This is because yerba mate provides much the same benefits as green tea and even more! This is perhaps best summed up by the 1964 study commissioned by the Pasteur Institute, which credited yerba mate teas as containing almost all nutrients that are required for sustaining life. That is a pretty big endorsement coming from such a prestigious research institution, which largely brought mate further into the limelight of the health world. Mate is now credited with providing many health benefits like healthy weight loss, reducing cholesterol levels and improving overall health. The main reason that mate improves healthy weight loss is the presence of the chemical compound saponin, which reduce body weight and promote fat oxidation during workouts.

Rosehip

Rosehips are the accessory fruit of the rose plant, and when used in tea, they are crushed for infusion. They appear immediately after a flower dies and have long been used by cultures all over the world. The fruit is rich in vitamins, antioxidants and chemical compounds that provide lots of health benefits like strengthening the immune system, reducing inflammation, detoxing the body, treating arthritis, reducing free radicals, inhibiting weight gain and decreasing visceral fat. Rosehips are particularly rich in Vitamin C. Compare it to an orange, for example as it is widely regarded as being the number one source of Vitamin C. An orange contains about 50mg of Vitamin C per 100g of the fruit ingested. Rosehips have between 1700 and 2000mg for the same amount ingested.

Nettle

Nettle, also known as common nettle or stinging nettle, is a flowering plant native to Asia, Europe, large parts of northern Africa and North America. It is widely renowned for the stinging sensation caused when fine hairs of the plant, containing histamine, acetylcholine and serotonin, are rubbed against the skin. However the most common and beneficial use of nettle is when the leaves are crushed and infused as tea. In this form, nettle is an excellent natural remedy for weight loss and has even been found to feed the cells of the body, resulting in reduced cravings and appetite. Nettle provides many more health benefits like antihistamine and anti-inflammatory qualities, improving urinary issues and cardiovascular health, boosting the immune system, maintaining healthy function of the kidneys and lungs and also improving bone health.
